He was then anticipating to have that debt be erased, but in a similar way feared that the military valor of the Templars. Thus, he chose to have these Templars arrested, and be charged with heresy only. Among the other things, these Templars were alleged of desecration of a cross, worship of Baphomet and homosexuality. History of Baphomet being a Goat-Headed Figure

During the year 1854, this name Baphomet becomes this goat-headed shape that we are now known. Eliphas Levi, the French ceremonial magician, re-imagined Baphomet as the figure he named as the ‘Sabbatic Goat’. Eliphas Levi’s Baphomet was destined to represent the merging of opposing vigors. For examples, the stature is a hermaphrodite, which had both the male and the female physical parts. Furthermore, Levi’s Baphomet was intentioned to serve as the collective image for all of the magical icons that are from the earlier polytheistic or the animistic traditions that endured the spread of the Christianity now. For example, the caprine elements have been inspired by Banebdjedet, the prehistoric Egyptian goat-headed divinity, as well as through Pan, the Greek deity.

Anubis, a mystical god

Being the god of the dead and the embalming, the afterlife and also the lost souls, Anubis had been considered as one of the mystical gods and the most important in the ancient Egypt. Anubis had been famous since the earliest era in the civilization history that was from the Nile River.

Anubis was initially stated at the First Dynasty era, but it is probable that the future study may illustrate that he had been there even before then. This has been fascinating to note though, that the word “Anubis” was not known before those Greeks get there in Egypt. During the prehistoric Egyptian language, Anubis was then named as Anpu or Inpu. The name had similar roots as a word that denotes ‘a royal child.’

Furthermore, this is also connected to the “inp”, a word that means “to decay”. He was also identified as “Imy-ut” or "He Who’s in a Place of Embalming", also as "nub-tA-djser" or the "lord of sacred land".

According to a Geraldine Pinch:

“Anubis had been the guardian of every kind of magical secret. In a Papyrus Jumilhac, he appeared as the head of Horus armed followers. His ferocity was a match for Seth violence. In the magical texts of the same date, Anubis is called as the 'Lord of Bau’. The entire battalions of messenger devils are under his control. In the supernatural papyri dating to the Roman times, Anubis acted as the major enforcer of curses. These gracious deities of sect temples are barely recognizable in the ruthless gods and goddesses come across in daily magic. The story in the Papyrus Jumilhac in 300 BC clarifies the custom by connecting how Seth once made himself into one panther after hitting the corpse of Osiris. He captured and branded this panther, making a leopard's spot. The jackal god ruled that leopard skins must be worn by the priests in remembrance of the victory over Seth.”

Baphomet: Was a Diabolical Demon Actually Worshipped by these Knights Templars?

Baphomet perhaps most identified as the identity of the deity supposedly devoted by the Knights Templar. In 14th century, during the Inquest of the Templars, the knights were mistakenly accused of devotion to this figure. The prominent icon of the Baphomet, explicitly as the goat-headed icon, however, only comes out much later on. The icon hurriedly became the sign of the occult, particularly as the illustration of the Devil and the evil.

The History of Baphomet being a Goat-Headed Statue

It was then in 1854 that the Baphomet becomes the goat-headed statue that we are known today. He was known as Eliphas Levi, the French ritual magician that re-imagined Baphomet being the statue he named as ‘Sabbatic Goat’. Eliphas Levi’s Baphomet was intended to represent the unification of opposite forces. For example, the figure is one hermaphrodite, having both the female and the male physical parts. Furthermore, Eliphas Levi’s Baphomet was proposed to serve as the collective symbol for all the magical images from the early animistic or polytheistic traditions that endured the widening of Christianity. For example, the caprine factors were inspired by the Banebdjedet, the prehistoric Egyptian goat-headed divinity, together with Pan, the Greek deity.

Eliphas Levi’s Baphomet was accepted by the eminent occultist, Aleister Crowley. Aleister Crowley associated Baphomet to Satan, and connected this icon with an idea of censored knowledge and secret devotion. Therefore, in opposition to the customary Christian thoughts, Crowley disagreed that Satan was actually not the mankind’s enemy, but its ally.

The Fable of Osiris

As a very fascinating side note, Nephthys had thought to have been sterile before she became expect a child with Osiris. This side of the fable was then associated with the Egyptian abandoned flowers which did not bloom for years, not until a massive flood (Osiris) facilitated in the barren area (Nephthys) and become fertile and give them life (Anubis). The myths also stated that Anubis honored Osiris, his father, by giving Osiris the title of the lord of the Underworld.

Set soon place a plan in action to get his vengeance. Base on Plutarch, Set either killed or drowned Osiris. The tale often said to contain he adorable chest tailor-created in Osiris’ shape. Set arranged the making of the chest, then, invited everyone with his brother in a banquet. While at the feast, he presented the beautiful chest to anybody that can fit themselves in it. Everybody was eager to try it, but then, it was only Osiris that fits inside. The time that Osiris laid down inside the chest, Set had nailed its lid for closure. Then, he closed the chest with the molten lead and then threw it, together with his brother, to the Nile.

The chest that some says motivated the idea for the Egyptian sarcophagi had been taken out to the sea and came to rest at the tamarisk tree that was growing near the Byblos in Phoenicia. This tree grew near the god’s coffin and he stayed there until he passed away. The local king then settled on liking the similar tree and with no idea of Osiris’ body that is inside it, had this turned to a column that is for his kingdom.
